During yesterdays launch event for the Droid X it was pointed out that the handset would be launching with Android 2.1. Needless to say, that news came as a bit of disappointment for some but it was quickly follow up in with a silver lining — Verizon and Motorola would be rolling out Android 2.2 later in the summer.
Well flash forward a few hours and it looks like that update is now being rumored to arrive in “late August.” The details are coming courtesy of the DroidForums and a leaked image. Of course, as with any leaked images — these details can and in many cases will change. That said, as of now it looks like Droid X users will be have to wait until late August to get Froyo. Still, while it sounds like a long time, its really only about 4-6 weeks after the release.
Moving on and we may have some better news for current Droid owners. According to that same image — it looks like you will be getting Froyo sometime in late-July.
With that, time will tell just how accurate these time estimates actually are. In the meantime, we can keep our fingers crossed.
